Medical Herbalist - Amanda Cutbill BSc MNIMH

Medical Herbalist - Amanda Cutbill BSc MNIMHI am passionate about herbal medicine and the way it can gently and safely resolve even long standing health problems.

My interest in complementary medicine started many years ago when my daughter suffered major health problems. She was referred to doctors at four different hospitals. Unfortunately, the treatments were ineffective and I was constantly worried about the side-effects of the strong drugs prescribed. As a last resort, I started to look at complementary therapies, including consulting a medical herbalist. My daughter’s health started to improve, and it was clear the herbal remedies had made a lasting difference.

To me, using natural medicines to help people to live healthier lives is the best job in the world.

I run a busy practice, seeing patients, dispensing, running workshops, contributing to articles (including The Mail on Sunday and Men’s Health magazine), and constantly updating my own knowledge.

Background

My training included a BSc (Hons) degree in Herbal Medicine. Medical Herbalists are the only complementary practitioners who are qualified to give a primary medical diagnosis. This is because the majority of a herbal medicine degree is biomedical science. I studied anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, biochemistry as well as practical clinical skills including physical examinations and differential diagnosis.  This means, for example, I can assess how any herbal remedy may interact with any prescribed drugs or treatments.

Having witnessed how nutrition and herbs can help support people with a diagnosis of Cancer I have undertaken additional specialised training from Penny Brohn Cancer Care and Chanchal Cabrera MSc FNIMH AGH.

Importantly I am a member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH), which was established in 1864. All members have undergone rigorous training, follow a programme of Continuing Professional Development, adhere to a strict code of professional ethics and their practice is monitored by the Institute.

At the Institute’s annual conference I will be delivering a lecture on herbal treatment for people suffering from depression and anxiety disorders.

Testimonials

I had been ill for a year before I was recommended to go and see Amanda Cutbill and consider herbal medicine.  Following her careful and professional advice I have seen a marked improvement in my inflammation rates – proved through recent blood tests.

I had been suffering from polymyalgia rheumatica -plus something then undiagnosed. At the worst stage I suffered severe pain in my legs and large muscles, had difficulty in climbing stairs, exhaustion and at one point could not even sign my name.   I underwent numerous blood tests, scans and Hospital appointments under two specialists.   I was given high doses of steroids (prednisolone). A year after the first symptoms I was told I had vascullitus of the lungs and polymyalgia. Both specialists recommended that I should take immune suppressors.

This was a step too far and after an initial talk with Amanda I saw my GP who agreed I could give herbal medicine a try and he would continue to monitor my progress and inflammation rates through regular blood tests.   Since taking the herbal medicine my inflammation rates fell by 30 points in two  months!.

Amanda not only took a thorough look at my medical history (which included a stroke and diabetes), diet and lifestyle, but also explained how the herbs worked.  She took careful note of my medications in case of adverse effects and gave sensible suggestions re diet and mobility whereby I could help myself. Markers were set to register progress at follow up appointments.

I am deeply grateful for her professional and caring advice and have no hesitation in recommending her work. Michael B. Knutsford

I am very grateful to Amanda for her treatment of my diarrhoea-predominant IBS. Over the past few years, I have seen two gastro-enterologists and a homeopath, and taken two Yorktests to eliminate food intolerances, but I had only succeeded in bringing my symptoms under a varying level of control, even after years of food-elimination and dietary modification. I had been told that all I could expect was to manage my condition, not to cure it.
However, Amanda’s herbal preparations, together with her dietary advice, have made a big difference within just a few weeks, despite starting over Christmas, a time when I cannot resist all the wrong types of foods. My  gut seems to be now healing well. At last, I have hopes of being able to resume guided birdwatching holidays without having to worry about whether my innards will behave.
Many thanks indeed, Amanda, Viv M, Cheshire.

Having had Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome nearly all my life I have suffered from the debilitating symptoms no woman wants- hirsutism, acne, weight gain, miscarriage, irregular menstruation – and a lot of difficulty in becoming pregnant. Amanda has given me herbal medicine tailored to my needs, vital information on diet plus endless support. This approach has worked well for me. I’m now a proud mum, have regular periods, am steadily losing weight and much of the unwanted hair growth.” - Barbara F, Stockport, Cheshire.

“I consulted Amanda regarding persistent acne. When she suggested I might have PCOS I was upset and very shocked. After reviewing blood test results my doctor confirmed the diagnosis. The herbal medicine Amanda prescribed has helped me to get my health problem under control.
Thank You! Any skeptics out there, please try it, you will be amazed!"
